Relive Jodar's journey through the new PIF ATP Next Gen Accelerator series below

Rafael Jodar’s rise has been one of the standout stories of the 2026 season.

Standing at 6’3” with a booming forehand, the 19-year-old Spaniard has gone from college tennis to one of the ATP Tour’s brightest young stars. In his first season as a professional, Jodar has captured his maiden ATP Tour title, climbed to a career-high No. 15 in the PIF ATP Rankings and put himself firmly in contention for a place at the Nitto ATP Finals.

Jodar is among the rising stars who has qualified for the PIF ATP Next Gen Accelerator, a programme that offers additional playing opportunities and support to some of the sport’s most promising talents across junior, college and traditional pathways.

"I realised that, if I wanted to be on Tour, I had to improve a lot and work hard, because that's the most important thing," Jodar said. "The PIF ATP Next Gen Accelerator has been a huge help. I had the chance to play all the Challengers last year thanks to this programme and the opportunities it gave me, and that really helped me up go up in the rankings."

The initiative reflects the evolving landscape of men’s tennis, where there is no longer a single route to the top. Jodar’s own journey is a perfect example.

Born and raised in Madrid, Jodar then spent a season at the University of Virginia in 2024 before qualifying for the 2025 Next Gen ATP Finals, and has since established himself as one of the Tour’s most exciting young prospects. Although he showed flashes of his potential with tour-level victories at the Australian Open, Delray Beach, Acapulco and Miami, his breakthrough truly arrived during the European clay swing.

Jodar stormed to his first ATP Tour title in Marrakech before backing it up with a semi-final run in Barcelona and quarter-final appearances in Madrid, Rome and Roland Garros. In Madrid, he defeated Alex de Minaur for his first Top 10 victory en route to the last eight, where he pushed World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, earning praise from the Italian for the level he produced.

Jodar’s rapid ascent has been reflected in the PIF ATP Rankings. At the beginning of August last year, Jodar was ranked outside the world's Top 500. Twelve months later, he sits at a career-high No. 15 and, perhaps more significantly, is up to 11th in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin.

By providing additional playing opportunities and support, the Accelerator aims to help more of the game's brightest young talents gain valuable experience, accelerate their development and showcase their potential on bigger stages.

Jodar's own path — from Madrid junior to college standout, ATP Tour champion and Nitto ATP Finals contender — illustrates just how varied those journeys can be, and why the next generation of men's tennis has never looked more exciting.
