Watch Cruz celebrate like his father and ATP No. 1 Club member Lleyton below

After Cruz Hewitt notched his first ATP Tour win on Tuesday at the Mubadala DC Open, the 17-year-old paid tribute to the person who helped him get there most: his father, Lleyton Hewitt.

Moments after sealing victory with a blistering forehand winner against Marcos Giron to become the youngest match winner in Washington since Kei Nishikori in 2007, Cruz celebrated with a familiar gesture. Bringing four fingers to his forehead, the Australian recreated his father's iconic 'Vicht' celebration, which the former No. 1 player in the PIF ATP Rankings and two-time major champion made famous throughout his career.

“It’s called the Vicht, I think. I need to check on that to be honest,” Cruz told Tennis Channel, when asked about the celebration. “He [Lleyton] never named it, he just always did it. And when I was little I just saw it and never really asked about it. So I might have to do that!

“But no, it’s cool to be able to do that because obviously my dad has been a huge part of where I am today. So I’m grateful to be able to have him.”

With his first-round victory at the ATP 500 event, Hewitt climbed 27 places to 17th in the PIF ATP Live Next Gen Race as he bids to qualify for the 20-and-under Next Gen ATP Finals for the first time.

The Sydney native also became just the fourth player born in 2008 or later to win a tour-level match (excluding Davis Cup), joining Diego Dedura, Thijs Boogaard and Moise Kouame.

Hewitt, who came through qualifying in Washington, will next face top seed and defending champion Alex de Minaur or Stefanos Tsitsipas.
