All five enjoyed milestone runs at Roland Garros

The #NextGenATP class of 2026 did not disappoint at Roland Garros.

Joao Fonseca and Rafael Jodar led the charge at the clay-court major, where they each reached their maiden Grand Slam quarter-final. With their breakthrough showings in Paris, the two 19-year-olds also bolstered their positions in the PIF ATP Live Next Gen Race.

Spain’s Jodar, who battled through two five-setters en route to becoming just the sixth man since 2000 to reach the quarter-finals on Roland Garros debut, remains in first place in the Live Race. Jodar, who fell to eventual champion Alexander Zverev in the last eight, is aiming to qualify for the season-ending Next Gen ATP Finals for the second consecutive year.

Meanwhile second-placed Fonseca, the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals champion, notched a standout victory against record 24-time major champion Novak Djokovic in the third round in Paris. The Brazilian then also overcame Casper Ruud before losing to Jakub Mensik in the quarter-finals.

PIF ATP Live Next Gen Race as of 10 June (View Full Standings here)
1) Rafael Jodar 1,569 points
2) Joao Fonseca 950
3) Martin Landaluce 643
4) Moise Kouame 257
5) Federico Cina 221
6) Nicolai Budkov Kjaer 211
7) Joel Schwaerzler 210
8) Rei Sakamoto 187

Martin Landaluce, Moise Kouame and Federico Cina, who sit directly below Fonseca in the Live Race, also trod new ground on the Roland Garros clay. Landaluce earned his first two main-draw wins at a major, against Juan Carlos Prado Angelo and Vit Kopriva, respectively. The 20-year-old Spaniard has already backed up his third-round run in Paris at the BOSS OPEN in Stuttgart, where he on Monday downed Pierre-Hugues Herbert in his maiden tour-level match on grass.

Any French tennis fans that hadn’t already heard of Kouame certainly have now, after the 17-year-old lit up the first week of Roland Garros with victories against Marin Cilic and Adolfo Daniel Vallejo. Kouame is fourth in the Live Race and is bidding to become the first 17-year-old to compete at the Next Gen ATP Finals.

Like Landaluce and Kouame, Cina also notched his first main-draw win at a major in Paris. The 19-year-old Italian came through qualifying before battling past Reilly Opelka in five sets to open his Grand Slam account. Jesper de Jong proved too strong for Cina in the second round, but Cina has responded well to that defeat by reaching the quarter-finals at this week’s Bratislava Open, a clay-court ATP Challenger 100 event. Cina is currently up two spots to fifth in the Live Race, and would leapfrog Kouame into fourth if he goes on to lift the trophy in Slovakia.
