Indian Wells draw will be made Monday

Joao Fonseca has been the talk of the tennis world in recent months. From winning the Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF to stunning Andrey Rublev at the Australian Open and claiming his first ATP Tour trophy in Buenos Aires, the teen is rapidly making his rise.

The 18-year-old will check off another first at the BNP Paribas Open this week, when he will compete in the Indian Wells ATP Masters 1000 event for the first time.

It All Adds Up

This is only the second Masters 1000 tournament of Fonseca's budding career. Last season, the Rio de Janeiro native debuted in the category at the Mutua Madrid Open, where he defeated Alex Michelsen in three sets before falling to Cameron Norrie, a former Top-10 player.

When Fonseca competed at the Caja Magica last April, he was No. 242 in the PIF ATP Rankings. The #NextGenATP star arrives in the California desert as World No. 80 with a career-high standing of No. 68.

By winning the title in Buenos Aires last month, Fonseca became the youngest South American to win a title in the ATP Tour era (since 1990).

The tournament debutant will try to make more history at Indian Wells, the first Masters 1000 event of the season. Fonseca will learn his first-round opponent when the draw is released on Monday afternoon.
