Michelsen wins in Michigan; Huesler reaches final in farewell outing

Diego Dedura earned a memorable career milestone Sunday. The 18-year-old captured his maiden ATP Challenger title and became the youngest champion at that level this season when he triumphed at the Tampere Open.

Joining Federico Cina as the only teenage champions on the Challenger circuit this year, Dedura overcame Finland's home hope Otto Virtanen 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-3 in the championship match.

Dedura is fifth in the PIF ATP Live Next Gen Race behind Rafael Jodar, Joao Fonseca, Martin Landaluce and Cina, respectively. The lefty is aiming to qualify for the Next Gen ATP Finals for the first time.

The Berlin native is the 10th German Challenger champion aged 18-and-under, joining the likes of Alexander Zverev, former World No. 4 Nicolas Kiefer and fellow #NextGenATP teenager Justin Engel.

One year ago at this time, Dedura was the No. 930 player in the PIF ATP Rankings. Following his victory in Tampere — where he spoiled Virtanen’s quest of becoming the third Finnish champion in the tournament’s 44-year history — Dedura is up to a career-high No. 197 in the PIF ATP Rankings, marking his Top 200 debut.

Michelsen reigns in Michigan
In other Challenger action, American Alex Michelsen returned to home soil and won the Cranbrook Tennis Classic in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. In the final, the 21-year-old ended Jacob Fearnley’s quest for a second consecutive Challenger title with a 7-6(4), 6-3 victory. Fearnley won the grass-court Newport Challenger two weeks ago.

Michelsen, the top seed in Michigan, is the final player in this week’s Top 40 of the PIF ATP Rankings. The American will look to build upon his Bloomfield Hills title run throughout the North American hard-court swing.

Huesler makes final in farewell event, Seyboth Wild triumphs
One of the stories of the 2026 ATP Challenger season happened at the Zug Open, where 30-year-old Marc-Andrea Huesler reached the championship match in his farewell event. Having announced his plans to retire from pro tennis the week before the event, Huesler went on a dream run and was only stopped by Brazil’s Thiago Seyboth Wild 6-4, 6-3.

The former No. 58 player in the PIF ATP Rankings, Seyboth Wild is a seven-time Challenger champion, including a victory at the Piracicaba Challenger in his home country last month.

Samuel, Pavlovic win Challenger 75 titles
Toby Samuel and Luka Pavlovic were also crowned champions at ATP Challenger 75 events Sunday. Samuel continued his breakthrough season by winning his third Challenger title of the year at the Winnipeg National Bank Challenger. The Briton beat home favourite Liam Draxl 6-4, 6-2 in the final. Samuel, who has won five Challenger trophies since last November, is now at a career-high No. 112 in the PIF ATP Rankings.

The Frenchman Pavlovic lifted his maiden Challenger crown at the Open Castilla y Leon Villa de el Espinar in Segovia, Spain. Pavlovic, 26, defeated countryman Matteo Martineau 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 in the title match to end his three-match skid in Challenger finals.
